Sports / Action
It's like Wayne Gretzky put it: "I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been." In sporting events, cameras need to be pointed the same way to where the action is going to be next. The 30+ years doing sports of all sorts have taught me knowing exactly this.
For sporting event organisers, having their sponsors included is invariably important. I always look for angles where they can be presented clearly (but not annoyingly) so that the viewers can and will respect the supporting companies.
Images of real estate need to be inviting - that they say "Welcome".
Be it a house for sale or an apartment for rent, the first impression is a key. I have been photographing many holiday homes, “Ferienwohnungen”, in Austria with very pleased clients.
I create my images through careful lighting on site and professional post-processing after the fact.
I prefer working for images that will be shown for a longer time for instance Booking.com, Tirol.at, Airbnb.com, and sites for hotels, but I am available also for quicker shoots.
Kids are adorable! They are genuine, they are honest, they show their feelings, and they melt our hearts.
Photo shoots with kids are no business to me. There are so many things that may delay a shoot that if one makes this just for money, he may as well quit and look for another better paying job.
Instead I photograph children for the fun of it! I never book another shoot for the same day, because I want to ensure there's enough time for whatever the kids throw at us. Usually I don't even take a camera out first but rather start by playing with the kids, to break the ice and to connect with them.
The nature has always been a big part of my life; first I spent a lot of time with my parents in a small cabin by one of the thousands of lakes in Finland, and then in the more recent years I have been skiing and climbing a lot in the Austrian alps.
Landscapes are always beautiful in good light, but I do prefer having some extra elements in my landscape imagery to make it more interesting. These higher powers that are out of our control may be wild storms or halos - whatever they are and however the nature decides to present them, I look for a perfect balance for the compositions and colours that complement each others.
The events that I photograph may often be characterised as "dynamic". I sometimes find it hard to draw the line between sports and events, as they're often "sports events"...
I do sometimes photograph parties, concerts, or charity events, but generally speaking I prefer some interesting dynamics over static presentations.
I have photographed private parties, but I don't do weddings - there are many specialised photographers who have honed their skills for that.
I love long exposures, "dragging the shutter", and will want to present a small collection of them here.
I find colours and shapes, balancing them and looking for ways to complement one with another very fascinating. Sometimes I go for a walk just looking for spots of lights that fit together by their colours and intensities, and start experimenting with various camera movements.
All photos shown in this category are single exposures over 1-30 seconds.
